The Universitat de Lleida (UdL) has organised a workshop focused on the materials and construction techniques of the iberian community known as the ilergets. This event is part of the 26th Cap de Setmana de la Ruta dels Ibers, coordinated by the Museu d'Arqueologia de Catalunya (MAC).

The workshop will take place on Saturday at the fortress of the Vilars in Arbeca and on Sunday at the oppidum of Gebut in Soses, both starting at 11:30 AM and requiring prior reservation.

Staff from the Grup d'Investigació Prehistòrica (GIP) at the UdL have designed this activity, where participants will create plaster paste, experiment with wall coatings, and learn about torchis, a traditional construction technique. Torchis is made from a mixture of clay, earth, and plant fibres such as straw or sawdust, primarily used to fill the wooden framework of walls.

This year's Cap de Setmana Ibèric is dedicated to architecture and urbanism during the iberian period, inviting attendees to explore how walls, streets, houses, and cisterns were constructed. "These remains allow us to delve into the daily lives of the communities that inhabited the territory over two thousand years ago and understand how they organised themselves and utilised their environmental resources," explained experts from the UdL.

Archaeologists from the GIP will conduct visits on Saturday, 3 October, at the Fortalesa dels Vilars and on Sunday, 4 October, at the oppidum of Gebut. Additionally, the Asociación Amigos de los Vilars will offer guided tours on Sunday. Both days in Arbeca, attendees will enjoy a vermut after their visit to the archaeological site.
