Sanxenxo continues to strengthen its position as a tourist destination, with September firmly establishing itself as the third month of the year in terms of hotel stays. The latest data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE) reveals a total of 126,989 overnight stays in local hotels, reflecting a significant 19.23% increase compared to the same month last year and a 15.3% rise from June.
This historic balance underscores the robust health of tourism in the municipality as the summer season comes to a close. It is important to note that the INE data only accounts for hotel activity, which represents just a fraction of the overall accommodation capacity. Specifically, it covers approximately 9,415 hotel beds, while Sanxenxo boasts 54,833 second residences, 13,365 tourist rental properties, 4,773 camping spots, and 2,767 apartments.
In terms of hotel establishments, the INE reported that 135 hotels were operational in September, offering around 4,144 rooms. The employment figures for the month showed that 1,088 people were employed in the sector, with an occupancy rate of 51.46%.
During September, Sanxenxo accounted for 26.73% of the total overnight stays in the province of Pontevedra and 18.74% of the total in the autonomous community of Galicia.
