Santa Cruz de Tenerife is set to host more than a hundred activities as part of the 23rd International Comic and Illustration Salon, commencing on 29 October and running until 1 November. The event will showcase 24 exhibitions in various locations throughout the municipality.
This morning, the Ayuntamiento de Santa Cruz de Tenerife (City Council) held a presentation for the salon, which aims to bring together comic and illustration enthusiasts. The event was attended by the city's mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez; the councillor for the Centro-Ifara district, Purificación Dávila; the culture councillor, Santiago Díaz Mejías; and the president of the Cine+Cómics Foundation, Francisco Pomares.
Mayor Bermúdez emphasised the significance of the city becoming a meeting point for comic and illustration fans, highlighting the event's role in energising cultural and commercial activities. He noted the value of hosting an internationally recognised event that brings diverse forms of artistic expression to audiences of all ages.
Purificación Dávila, the councillor for the Centro-Ifara district, praised the salon's presence in various spaces across the capital, particularly within the urban centre. She stressed the importance of making culture accessible to the public and how cultural activities can invigorate public spaces and enhance life in the district.
Santiago Díaz Mejías, the culture councillor, recalled the revival of the Centro de Arte La Recova as one of the venues for this year's salon, marking its return to the programme after three years. He highlighted the importance of this space in bringing comic and illustration closer to the public, thereby strengthening the presence of visual arts in Santa Cruz's cultural offerings.
Francisco Pomares, president of the Cine+Cómics Foundation, noted the scale of this year's edition, which will feature over a hundred activities and 40 exhibitions across various municipalities in the Canary Islands, with 24 of them located in Santa Cruz. He also mentioned the participation of more than eighty artists and the introduction of new venues and proposals, expanding opportunities for interaction between creators and fans.
During the presentation, key details of the event were revealed, with the main activities scheduled to take place from 29 October to 1 November, centred around Plaza del Príncipe. Additional activities will also occur at the Museo Municipal de Bellas Artes (Municipal Museum of Fine Arts) and the Real Casino de Tenerife.
The Plaza del Príncipe will host the commercial area of the salon, featuring seven shops and an Artist Alley with over eighty participants. It will also feature a stage dedicated to cosplay activities, K-pop, and a J-pop and idol competition, which is a new addition for this edition. The Museo Municipal de Bellas Artes will once again serve as a venue for talks and presentations, while the Real Casino de Tenerife will host the salon's awards gala and the 'Juventud Canaria' 2026 Comic and Illustration Contest.
Of the 24 exhibitions in the municipality, distributed across eight venues in the capital, twelve will showcase original drawings.
