Film san simón opens autumn cinema season in milladoiro

The autumn cinema programme is set to begin on 5 November with the screening of the film San Simón at the Casa da Cultura do Milladoiro, scheduled for 20:00. This film, produced in 2025 and presented in Galician, is a drama that delves into the historical context of Galicia in the 19th century, specifically focusing on the repression experienced under Franco's regime.

The narrative is set against the backdrop of October 1936, when over three hundred concentration camps were established across Spain, utilising convents, factories, schools, and other enclosed spaces. The island of San Simón, known for its isolation, was transformed into a site of suffering, where prisoners faced repression amidst a striking natural beauty. The story follows Lamas, a prisoner who reflects on the experiences of those who endured hardship in this small coastal enclave.

Director Miguel Ángel Delgado will be present for the film's presentation and subsequent discussion. The film has a runtime of 108 minutes and is suitable for viewers aged 12 and older. The cast includes Alexandro Bouzó, Flako Estévez, Ana Fontenla, Manuel Landeiro, Guillermo Queiro, Darío Fernández Raposo, Lucía Amarillee Torrado, and Xaime Vilasoa.

The autumn cinema programme will feature two additional films throughout November. On 12 November, As liñas descontinuas, another Galician drama produced in 2025, will be screened. Directed by Anxos Fazáns, this film tells the story of Bea, a woman navigating her separation from her husband, and Denís, a young transgender man facing employment challenges.

The final screening, scheduled for 20 November, will showcase the documentary Ao son da nova regueifa, directed by Manolo Maseda and Saúl Rivas. This 60-minute documentary explores the connections between traditional regueifa, a form of oral improvisation, and its contemporary expressions, featuring interviews and performances from various artists across Galicia.

All screenings will take place at 20:00 at the Casa da Cultura do Milladoiro, with tickets available through the electronic ticket office.
