Fernando Gil and Fernando Egozcue to close Fuerteventura book fair with 'De acero inolvidable'

The Fuerteventura Book Fair will conclude its programme with the recital 'De acero inolvidable', which offers an ironic perspective on the myths of masculinity. The event is scheduled for Sunday at 20:30, immediately after the presentation of the Reader's Award.

Starring actor Fernando Gil, known for his role as Pedro Aguilar in the series 'Machos Alfa', the performance will feature the music of Argentine composer and guitarist Fernando Egozcue. Together, they aim to challenge traditional stereotypes of masculinity through a blend of humour, poetry, and live music.

'De acero inolvidable' replaces the previously scheduled show 'Bécquer y Quevedo. Amor y muerte', which was cancelled due to health issues affecting actor Pedro Casablanc. The recital promises to be a theatrical experience that intertwines literature, performance, and music.

In this performance, Gil explores the contradictions of a deeply entrenched archetype in popular imagination. The show examines the facade of masculinity, its arrogance, failures, and absurdities, while juxtaposing these traits with its supposed virtues and inexplicable bravado. Through songs, legends, poems, anecdotes, and testimonies, the recital aims to dismantle some of the most enduring myths of Iberian masculinity, all while engaging the audience in laughter and reflection.

The performance offers a sharp critique that goes beyond mere caricature, delving into the complexities and self-destructive tendencies of its subject. The result is a theatrical journey where humour serves as a tool to question behaviours, clichés, and traditional models, with audience participation being a key element.

Fernando Gil is a prominent figure in 'Machos Alfa', a comedy that addresses the masculinity crisis faced by a group of men over 40. His character, Pedro Aguilar, resonates with the themes explored in 'De acero inolvidable', reflecting the contradictions and challenges of contemporary masculinity. Gil's extensive career spans film, television, and theatre, with notable appearances in productions such as 'Cuéntame cómo pasó', 'Muchachada Nui', and 'La que se avecina'. He has also portrayed Felipe VI in the television biopic 'Felipe y Letizia'.

Fernando Egozcue, who has lived in Madrid since 1992, is known for his diverse musical styles and traditions. He has composed for chamber ensembles and orchestras, as well as for theatre, film, and dance, with fifteen albums to his name. Between 1998 and 2009, he was a composer and guitarist for Ensamble Nuevo Tango and has collaborated with renowned artists such as José Mercé and Ara Malikian.

The Fuerteventura Book Fair is organised by the Insular Library Centre, part of the Culture Department of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, in collaboration with the Canarian Institute of Cultural Development and the regional government's Vice-Ministry of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Childhood, and Family.
