More than a hundred pieces of jewellery crafted by students of the School of Art and Design of the Diputació de Tarragona (EADT) highlight the evolution of artistic jewellery studies at the institution, which this year marks its 50th anniversary. The exhibition, titled "50 years of jewellery at the EADT," opened on Thursday afternoon in the Pati del Palau of the Diputació de Tarragona and will be accessible until 25 November.
The event was attended by Óscar Sánchez, the deputy for Social and Cultural Promotion of the Diputació, and Marcel Blàzquez, the director of the centre. This retrospective exhibition offers a glimpse into five decades of creation and learning in the art of jewellery making at the EADT.
The display features a selection of pieces representing various stages of the studies at the centre, including a range of jewellery types such as bracelets, brooches, rings, necklaces, and keychains. Visitors can see creations made from a variety of materials used over the years, from precious metals like gold and silver to contemporary materials such as textiles and plastics. The exhibition includes works by award-winning students, as well as pieces created by faculty members and alumni who currently work in renowned jewellery workshops in the region.
In addition to the jewellery displayed on exhibition totems and glass cases, the exhibition features banners with text and photographs that explain the evolution of jewellery studies at the School of Art and Design in Tarragona.
The 50th-anniversary celebrations will culminate on 1 December, the feast day of San Eloy, the patron saint of goldsmiths and jewellers, with the launch of a publication and a market for the sale of pieces made by students. At 12:30, a publication titled "50 years of jewellery from the EADT" will be presented in the Pati del Palau. This publication includes reflections on the history, creative processes, and significance of artistic jewellery, featuring texts from professionals connected to the discipline and the centre, along with a compilation of pieces created since 1975 and preserved at the school.
The day will also feature an artistic market where visitors can purchase pieces made by EADT students, taking place in the esplanade in front of the Palau de la Diputació from 11:00 to 14:00. Jewellery studies were incorporated into the School in the 1975-1976 academic year, coinciding with the school's relocation to its current building.
