Alicante invests 579,117 euros to tackle school absenteeism

The Alicante City Council has awarded a contract for the Detection, Prevention, and Intervention in School Absenteeism service, which has been tendered in two lots over three academic years, with the possibility of extending it for an additional year. The two awarded lots include the Prevention, Detection, and Intervention service for school absenteeism, assigned to Eulen Servicios Sociosanitarios S.A. for 547,074 euros, and the Activities for the Prevention of School Absenteeism, awarded to Filias Innovación Social for 32,043 euros.

Education Councillor Mari Carmen de España emphasised that this service plays a crucial role in achieving full schooling and ensuring attendance among all children of compulsory school age, which ranges from 6 to 16 years. She stated that it is essential to protect the right to education as a means to achieve effective equality and inclusion.

The Education Department, through its Technical Department for the Prevention of School Absenteeism, is committed to ensuring regular attendance in classes, thereby guaranteeing equal conditions for all students within the compulsory education age bracket. The service conducts studies on absenteeism situations, promotes improved family-school relationships, and develops tailored intervention plans based on the needs of children and their families, in close coordination with schools and the Conselleria de Educación.

Additionally, preventive activities are organised in educational centres, such as 'La escuela de la reina', a story accompanied by a guide of educational activities designed for primary education, as well as workshops focused on prevention, family education, and social education.
