The Princesa Leonor park in Valdebebas has been enriched with the addition of 40 olive trees, donated by the Embassy of Israel. The planting ceremony took place with the participation of Borja Carabante, Madrid's delegate for Urban Planning, Environment, and Mobility, alongside Dana Erlich, the acting ambassador of Israel in Spain.
Also present were José Antonio Martínez Páramo, the councillor for Cleaning and Green Areas, and David Pérez, the councillor for Hortaleza. This initiative aims to enhance the city's green spaces and underscores the collaboration between the Madrid City Council and the Israeli Embassy through a tree that is emblematic of the Mediterranean landscape.
The donation is particularly significant as it coincides with the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Spain and Israel. The olive tree, which features prominently in the Israeli coat of arms, symbolises peace through its two branches. In Jewish tradition, planting a tree represents life, hope, and resilience, values that the Israeli Embassy wishes to share with Madrid.
Carabante expressed gratitude for the donation, noting that initiatives like this contribute to the enrichment of Madrid's green areas and strengthen ties between the two institutions. Martínez Páramo highlighted the importance of trees in enhancing public spaces, stating, “Every tree we add to Madrid helps build a greener and more liveable city.”
