The La Confianza Cultural Centre in Valdepeñas is hosting the exhibition ‘Purity and Art’ by the Castilian-Manchegan artist Adrián Sánchez Retamosa until 20 November. This exhibition is part of the 39th Cultural Week of the Peña Taurina El Burladero, following its previous showings in Madrid during the San Isidro Fair and in Santander, among other locations.
During the opening ceremony, Vanessa Irla, the Deputy Mayor for Culture, congratulated the Peña Taurina for its long-standing cultural week and expressed gratitude to the artist for accepting the invitation to exhibit in Valdepeñas. She stated, “I want to thank you immensely for accepting the proposal from the Peña Taurina El Burladero for us to enjoy this exhibition, as it is a source of pride for it to be in Valdepeñas and the first place in Castilla-La Mancha to host ‘Purity and Art’. It is a satisfaction for us.”
Elías Carrero, a representative of the Peña Taurina El Burladero, highlighted the artist's technique, noting that Sánchez Retamosa is known for his figurative realism set against dark backgrounds, where light, contrast, and the expression of figures take centre stage. “His figurative painting combines intuition, discipline, and a recognisable aesthetic through realism on a black background. This technique enhances the volume, presence, and emotion of each figure,” he remarked.
This exhibition also features previously unseen works by Adrián Sánchez and is accompanied by other activities as part of the 39th Cultural Week of the Peña Taurina El Burladero, including a conference and a documentary screening.
