Coordination of security measures finalised for the upcoming Ibero-American Summit

The security arrangements for the XXX Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, scheduled to be held in Madrid on 4 and 5 November 2026, have been finalised following a meeting at the Government Delegation's headquarters.

The National Police will contribute a total of 1,800 officers in various roles, primarily from the Police Intervention Unit, which will ensure safety around the venues hosting events. They will be supported by personnel and vehicles from the Protection and Reaction Unit, as well as other capabilities such as intelligence and aerial resources.

The Ministry of Defence will also assist in securing the airspace, providing capabilities against unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and cyber defence.

Additionally, the Civil Guard will deploy around 650 agents, focusing on the arrival of officials at Barajas and Torrejón de Ardoz airports and their transportation, in collaboration with the Provincial Traffic Group. The Municipal Police of Madrid will support this effort with approximately 800 officers.

The meeting was chaired by Pilar Trinidad Núñez, the Deputy Government Representative in the Community of Madrid, and included representatives from various governmental bodies such as the Royal Household, the Presidency of the Government, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defence, and the Organising Office of the Summit, among others.

Trinidad expressed gratitude for the prior coordination efforts of all involved and encouraged continued collaboration for such a significant event.

The summit, themed “Ibero-America: Together we build our community. Together we project it towards the future and the world,” will bring together leaders from the majority of Ibero-American countries, with His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain presiding. António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, has also confirmed his attendance.

The Ibero-American Summits are political gatherings where heads of state and government from Ibero-American countries work on a common agenda. Originating from the desire to formalise historical ties within a community of approximately 700 million people, these biennial meetings serve as a platform for agreement and convergence, resulting in various mandates that translate into concrete initiatives benefiting citizens.
