Cinematic concert to debut at Universitat de Lleida

The concert 'Piano for Spanish cinema' will make its debut in Lleida, showcasing soundtracks from various Spanish films. This musical project is conceived and directed by local pianist Manel Martín and Tortosa-born Toni Costa. After its premiere in Geneva last year, the concert has toured cities including Paris and Marrakech before arriving in Lleida.

Manel Martín describes the show as an evocation of the poetic universe of different Spanish film directors, presented through an eclectic kaleidoscope of musical styles performed on the piano. The arrangements incorporate elements of classical music, Spanish song, jazz, and Latin American music.

The concert is scheduled for Friday, 30 October, at 7 PM in the Auditorium of the Centre for Cultures. It will feature a four-handed piano duet, accompanied by the voice of local artist Sheila López and the cello of French musician Jean-Baptiste Texier.

Martín, who trained at the Conservatorio de Lleida and ESMUC (Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya), specialises in music, movement, and sport. He is also a co-author, alongside his sister Montse, a world champion in rhythmic gymnastics, of the book 'Pinceladas de rítmica' and the creator of the multidisciplinary show 'La danza de los dos pianos'.

Toni Costa has developed his profile as an improviser and accompanying pianist for dance, particularly with the Geneva Opera Ballet and in solo projects focusing on historical memory and music of Hispanic origin. He also studied pedagogy with Martín in San Francisco, California.
