Alicante launches 'Otoño Fotográfico del Casco Antiguo' with tribute to the Beatles

The Housing Board of Alicante has announced the launch of the 19th edition of the 'Otoño Fotográfico en el Casco Antiguo de Alicante' competition, in collaboration with the Association of Writers of Luces from the University of Alicante. The initiative aims to promote cultural and commercial activities in the historic centre through black and white photography.

Photographers can submit their works from 1 to 30 November, with a maximum of two entries per person. The competition is open to individuals aged 16 and over, with parental consent required for those under 18. Images must be taken within the boundaries of the Casco Antiguo, specifically from the viewpoint of the Castillo de Santa Bárbara.

A total of three prizes of €300 each will be awarded, with categories including the best photograph of the Casco Antiguo, the best photograph capturing the atmosphere on the day of the concert at El Claustro, and the best photograph by a young person under 36 years old.

The traditional Rooftop concert by The Liverpool Band, a tribute group to The Beatles, will take place on Sunday, 22 November, at midday on the roof of the municipal building at El Claustro. This concert has become a staple of the event, further enriching the cultural landscape of the area.

Selected works will be exhibited at El Claustro from 17 December to 7 January, showcasing the top 24 entries. The winners will be announced on 17 December at the Palacio del Portalet LAB15.

Carlos de Juan, the Councillor for Housing, emphasised the significance of this event, stating, “We have been celebrating this competition, the exhibition, and the traditional concert in homage to the Beatles to invigorate cultural activity and experiences in the Casco Antiguo.” He also highlighted the ongoing efforts of the Housing Board to enhance the area, including the construction of student residences and improvements to accessibility and archaeological sites.
