The performance Hasta el (ch)ocho-m, created and performed by feminist activists Carla Galeote, Patricia Espejo, and Júlia Salander, will launch the fifth edition of the Artivismo cycle at Universitat de Lleida (UdL) tomorrow. This show combines humour and social critique through an intergenerational lens to address the violence that women continue to face today.
Artivismo, organised by the Gender Equality section of the UdL's Equality and Diversity unit, has spent five years raising awareness about gender-based violence through culture and the arts. This year's sessions aim to foster critical and collective reflection on various forms of gender violence. Yolanda Bardina, a gender equality technician at UdL, explained, "The performances invite the audience to question everyday machismo and confront it through humour, analysis, or drama."
The second session, scheduled for 3 November, will focus on play. Titled Jugando hacia la igualdad, it will feature consultant and educator Noemí Blanch, who will explore playful dynamics from a feminist perspective, highlighting the potential of gamification as a tool to promote equality and challenge gender roles.
The cycle will conclude on 10 November with the monologue A mí no me regales flores by Atakama Creatividad Cultural. This piece tells the story of a woman facing a crucial decision in a context marked by gender inequality and violence. Through a mix of irony and drama, the performance highlights the internal conflict and challenges many women encounter in situations of gender-based violence.
The Artivismo cycle is open to all and is supported by the Ministry of Equality through the Secretary of State for Equality and against Gender Violence. For more information, visit the programme for the fifth Artivismo cycle.
