Castilla-La Mancha government highlights teaching vocation and recognizes educators' commitment to education

Almagro (Ciudad Real), 3 October 2026. José Caro, the delegate for Education, Culture, and Sports in the province of Ciudad Real, participated in the opening of the photographic exhibition 'Enseñantes. Cartografía de una vocación' by Marina Arcos. This exhibition focuses on the teaching professionals and offers an artistic perspective on those who have made education a vital part of their lives.

During the event, Caro emphasized the recognition from the Castilla-La Mancha government, led by Emiliano García-Page, for the teaching profession and the dedication with which educators perform their roles. He stated, “Behind every classroom, every learning experience, and every educational project, there are always people.”

Caro noted the timeliness of the exhibition at the beginning of a new school year, explaining that “few professions can be as well explained through the idea of a cartography.” He described teaching as a journey with planned paths and unexpected turns, where individuals intersect and become part of one’s own story.

The delegate highlighted the value of taking a moment to appreciate those who teach, urging attendees to listen to the stories behind a profession that everyone is familiar with, as “in one way or another, we have all been in the hands of a teacher.”

While acknowledging the importance of concepts like innovation, inclusion, digitalization, and results in education, Caro stressed that “behind each of these, there are always people.” He pointed out that educators prepare lessons, support their students, identify challenges, celebrate progress, and understand that teaching involves more than just transmitting knowledge.

Caro also emphasized that the teaching vocation should not be idealized, as being an educator requires training, professionalism, continuous updating, and significant effort. He deemed it essential to recognize those who have made teaching a crucial part of their life journey.

He further remarked on the lasting impact teachers leave on their students, stating, “A teacher can hardly measure the full extent of their influence.” He noted that years later, former students may remember a phrase, a lesson, a piece of advice, or a gesture that the teacher may barely recall. Thus, 'Enseñantes. Cartografía de una vocación' transcends individual portraits to become “a look at a shared memory” and the generations of professionals who have contributed to transforming society through something as commonplace as a classroom.

Caro appreciated that art allows for a different perspective on this reality, moving away from statistics and documents to focus on the people, their faces, their stories, and what the teaching profession means to each of them. He reiterated the commitment to initiatives that bridge education and culture while acknowledging the regional government’s recognition of the educators in the province, both those starting their careers and those who have dedicated decades to the profession.

Finally, he congratulated Marina Arcos for the exhibition and Lorenzo J. Torres for curating it, thanking the Ateneo de Almagro and the Contemporary Art Space for their involvement in a project that “reminds us of a fundamental truth: behind education, there are always people.”
