Demolition of Di San Remo to pave the way for Samil transformation

On October 8, 2026, the Xunta de Goberno will validate the demolition project for the Si San Remo restaurant located in Samil. According to Mayor Caballero, the goal is to advance the dune regeneration currently underway in the beach area.

This morning, the mayor announced the approval of the demolition project for the building at number 28 on Avenida de Samil, formerly known as the Di San Remo bar-restaurant. The project, which involves an investment of approximately €100,000 and is expected to last two months, is scheduled to commence before the upcoming summer.

The demolition will clear the site to continue the transformation and dune regeneration project initiated at Samil beach.

In the upcoming meeting of the Xunta de Goberno on Friday, the council will also approve a regulatory project that will govern the organization and functioning of the Concello de Vigo. As explained by Caballero, this organizational regulation allows the Concello to exercise its self-organization powers, adapting the organizational and functional framework of its bodies—except for the Plenary—to the special regime for large municipalities established by the "Law of Large Cities."

The main objective of this new organizational framework—introduced by Law 57/2003 for large municipalities—is to separate functions between the Plenary and the municipal executive body, which includes the mayor and the Xunta de Goberno Local. The mayor serves as the principal directing body for municipal policy, government, and administration, while the Xunta de Goberno Local acts as a key collaborative body in the political direction of the municipality, endowed with extensive executive functions.
