Anni B Sweet closes 40th Spanish Poetry Encounter in Almagro with a pop and psychedelia concert

The 40th Spanish Poetry Encounter has concluded in Almagro, featuring a full Municipal Theatre and a musical proposal that united intimacy, sensitivity, and contemporary sounds. The Málaga-born singer, songwriter, and producer Anni B Sweet headlined the closing of this special edition, organised by the Cultural and Tourist Promotion area of the Ciudad Real Provincial Council, with an acoustic concert that highlighted melodic pop, psychedelia, and influences from the 1960s.

For over an hour, the artist took the audience on a journey through various stages of her musical career, with a particular focus on songs from her fifth solo album, “Alegría,” released in October 2026. The repertoire also included tracks from “Universo por estrenar” (2019) and “Burbuja cómoda y elefante inesperado” (2022), the latter a collaboration with the band Los Estanques.

Accompanied by her acoustic guitar and three musicians on keyboards, bass, and electric guitar, Anni B Sweet created a close and immersive atmosphere where melodies and lyrics took centre stage. The combination of acoustic and electric instruments allowed for an appreciation of the different nuances in her compositions, which traverse the realms of 1960s-inspired pop, psychedelia, and melodic soul.

The performance showcased the versatility of an artist who writes, composes, produces, and performs her own songs while also playing multiple instruments. Her ability to blend various musical influences with a distinctive voice has been a hallmark of a concert that captivated a diverse audience and marked the conclusion of the Encounter's programme.

Originally from Málaga, Anni B Sweet has established herself over the past two decades as one of the prominent voices in the Spanish music scene. Her career includes awards, international tours in countries such as Japan, Germany, and Mexico, as well as collaborations with notable artists like Feist, John Legend, Santiago Auserón, and Miguel Ríos. Her discography, comprising five solo albums alongside other collaborative works, reflects an artistic evolution influenced by the sounds of late 1960s pop.

The choice of Anni B Sweet to close the 40th Spanish Poetry Encounter brought a contemporary perspective to a programme that explored various forms of relationship between words and music. Her concert served to highlight the poetic dimension of song lyrics and their ability to express emotions, experiences, and feelings through current musical languages.

This performance marked the end of a particularly significant edition of the Spanish Poetry Encounter, which brought together various artistic proposals around literary creation, music, and performance in Almagro. The programme combined tradition and modernity, reaffirming the town's status as a cultural venue dedicated to promoting poetry and its diverse manifestations to the public.

The closure also reinforced the provincial institution's commitment to the continuity of an initiative that, after forty editions, retains its capacity to incorporate new poetic and artistic languages, attract audiences from different generations, and enrich the cultural life of Ciudad Real province.
