Vigo mayor calls for cooperation agreement with Diputación

Abel Caballero has urged the Diputación to sign a long-awaited cooperation agreement that has been in discussion for the past 13 years, which also involves other municipalities in the Pontevedra region. He accused the Diputación of blocking investments in Vigo and suggested removing conditions that he claims disadvantage the city.

Vigo mayor calls for cooperation agreement with Diputación

Abel Caballero, the mayor of Vigo, has called on the authorities of the Diputación de Pontevedra to finalise a cooperation agreement that has been under negotiation for over a decade. This agreement, which has already been signed with other municipalities such as Mos, Sanxenxo, Meaño, Lalín, Valga, and Cerdedo-Cotobade, aims to enhance urban development in the region.

During a recent statement, Caballero expressed frustration over what he perceives as the Diputación's reluctance to invest in Vigo, specifically mentioning the streets of Rosalía de Castro and Doutor Carracido. He stated, "The Diputación does not want to give Vigo the 5 million euros stipulated in the agreement, despite receiving 95 million euros from the State."

The mayor highlighted that the Concello has been requesting the signing of this agreement for more than a year and accused the provincial entity of introducing new clauses that he believes are discriminatory against Vigo. He argued that these conditions are unrelated to the city and seem designed to undermine local projects in favour of political publicity.

Caballero noted that for 13 years, under the leadership of Carmela Silva and the current government, both institutions have maintained the same agreement. However, he expressed concern that changes are being proposed in the final year of the current mandate, which he believes are intended to benefit the publicity of representatives from the People's Party (PP).
