Vigo council approves urban improvement works for Ermida da Guía access

The Vigo council has approved a project to enhance the urban environment of rúa Dona Fermina, which provides access to the Ermida da Guía temple, with a budget of €631,462. The works are expected to take five months to complete.

The initiative aims to boost pedestrian areas and renew all service networks in the vicinity. Mayor Abel Caballero stated, “A much-deserved improvement for A Guía,” as he announced the agreement reached by the Municipal Government Board to advance the execution of the works.

The project is designed to integrate rúa Dona Fermina into the surrounding heritage and natural environment, providing new services and street furniture, among other enhancements. Caballero noted that the works will focus on a 200-metre stretch with a variable width of between 5 and 10 metres, covering an area of over 3,000 square metres.

Key features of the project include the demolition of the structure supporting the pedestrian walkway and the old café, as well as measures to restrict vehicle traffic in order to prioritise pedestrians. Additionally, the ramp leading to the cross will be repaved, and a new traffic light system will be installed, along with new urban furniture and greenery.
