Leopoldo Sierra highlights the role of local operators in rural connectivity

Leopoldo Sierra, the mayor of Daimiel, inaugurated the Annual Convention of the Association of Telecommunications Operators of Castilla-La Mancha (AOTEL CLM) on Wednesday, bringing together nearly fifty operators, suppliers, and institutional representatives at the Espacio Fisac. The event aims to discuss the current state and future of telecommunications in the region.

In his speech, which occurred shortly before news broke of a train accident in Urda, Sierra commended the efforts of local operators, highlighting their contribution to improving connectivity in towns and districts, particularly in areas where population dispersion and distance pose significant challenges.

The mayor noted that these locally rooted companies provide added value due to their understanding of each municipality and the direct support they offer to residents. He stressed that their activities are essential for the economy, public services, and daily life in rural communities.

Sierra pointed out that since its establishment in 2018, AOTEL CLM has been working to unite operators, advocate for their interests, and promote collaboration and knowledge sharing in a constantly evolving sector. He addressed several challenges that will shape the future of telecommunications, including improving connection speeds and quality, enhancing network security, and responsibly harnessing new technologies.

To advance in these areas, he underscored the importance of collaboration among businesses, public administrations, and universities, as well as attracting and nurturing specialised talent.

The mayor specifically thanked Ángel de la Osa, the technical director of Daimiel Televisión and a board member of the association, for his involvement in making the convention possible in Daimiel, along with the efforts of AOTEL CLM and all individuals and entities involved in organising the event.

Finally, Sierra invited attendees to explore the main tourist and heritage attractions of the town, including the National Park of Las Tablas de Daimiel and the archaeological site of Motilla del Azuer, as well as its gastronomy and wines. He extended a special invitation to meet the residents of Daimiel, whom he described as welcoming and proud of their city.

The convention features presentations from suppliers and technological solutions, as well as a discussion space on issues such as cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, which are crucial for addressing the upcoming challenges in the sector.
