Valencian tourism network advances sustainability with new pilot projects

The Working Group on Sustainability of the Intelligent Tourist Destinations Network of the Valencian Community (DTI-CV) convened for its sixth meeting on 29 September at Invat·tur, adopting a hybrid format to discuss innovative solutions aimed at enhancing sustainability and tourism management across the region.

The meeting provided an opportunity to share results from the dynamic inventory project of tourist resources in Vinaròs, developed in collaboration with the University Institute of Tourism at Jaume I University. It also offered a comprehensive overview of the Sustainable Tourism Plans (PSTD) in the Valencian Community.

During the session, various pilot projects linked to the PSTD were presented, showcasing the practical application of technology and innovation in sustainable destination management. Notably, Benidorm introduced its digital twin project designed to calculate transient population levels, a tool aimed at improving understanding of tourist pressure and facilitating more efficient destination management.

Additionally, Novelda showcased an initiative for protecting tourist influx in natural areas using capacity measurement sensors, which allows for data-driven management of natural spaces and visitor flows. Riba-Roja presented an augmented reality project aimed at enhancing the value of its cultural assets, incorporating new technological tools for interpreting and promoting its tourism heritage.

The meeting highlighted the value of the DTI-CV network as a platform for knowledge and experience exchange among destinations, fostering the development of projects under European funds that can generate shared knowledge and replicable solutions in other municipalities within the Valencian Community. Invat·tur emphasised the importance of continuing to strengthen this collaborative work, connecting sustainability, innovation, technology, and data-driven management to advance towards more efficient, competitive, and sustainable tourist destinations.
