UPV to host jornadas recuperant patrimoni from 4 to 7 November

The jornadas recuperant patrimoni, organised by UPV and the Generalitat Valenciana, focus on the recovery of Valencian cultural heritage and promote knowledge exchange among professionals and students.

UPV to host jornadas recuperant patrimoni from 4 to 7 November

The jornadas recuperant patrimoni aim to gather a series of interventions and best practices regarding the recovery of Valencian cultural heritage. The event seeks to foster knowledge exchange among professionals, researchers, students, administrations, and stakeholders involved in heritage protection.

Taking place from 4 to 7 November, the programme combines technical presentations focused on criteria, methodologies, and experiences applied to various intervention cases, alongside visits to cultural heritage sites. This approach allows participants to directly observe the actions taken and reflect on their outcomes.

Resilience of heritage

The event will serve as a platform for learning and debate on the current challenges of conserving, restoring, and managing cultural heritage. The opening presentation is scheduled for Wednesday, 4 November, at 4 PM in the Sala Refectorio of the Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània. Professors Camilla Mileto and Fernando Vegas from UPV will present “RE-SIL(I)ENT: A study on the vulnerability and resilience improvement of residential historical heritage against flooding through compatible interventions.” Following this, Olimpia Ferreiro Chicote, Deputy Director of Cultural Heritage and Museums of the GVA, will discuss “Consequences of the DANA of 2024 on cultural heritage: Immediate action plan from the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage, Conselleria de Education, Culture and Universities, Generalitat Valenciana.”

Presentations and visits

The afternoon will be dedicated to international resilience, featuring discussions on China, Italy’s high tides threatening Venice, traditional earth architecture in disaster resilience, and the evaluation of the DANA 29-O on the hydraulic heritage of l’Horta Sud. The complete programme will also address issues related to underwater heritage intervention, castle restoration, ephemeral architecture, and strategies for dealing with structural cracks, among other topics.

Presentations will alternate with visits to significant sites, including the castle of Buñol, the dome of the Escuelas Pías in Valencia (awarded the Europa Nostra Prize for best intervention), the castle of Petrés, the Cartuja de Vall de Crist in Altura, and the church of Santas Justa and Rufina in Orihuela.
