Torrejón de Ardoz showcases local authors at cultural events

Torrejón de Ardoz has recently welcomed a series of book presentations featuring local authors, including J. M. Velásquez, Sonia Cuerva, Paula Benítez, Patricia Fernández, Diego García, and Alfredo Piquer Garzón. The events, attended by the city’s Councillor for Culture, José Antonio Moreno, provided a platform for each author to discuss their work, followed by a question-and-answer session and book signings for attendees.

The featured works are now available in the local authors section of the municipal libraries, highlighting the vibrant literary scene in the area. Through novels, poignant stories, and poetry, Torrejon's writers offer characters and experiences that encourage reflection and invite readers to immerse themselves in literature.

Highlights from the presentations

J. M. Velásquez's novel “Palaga” intertwines two destinies that, while crossing paths, ultimately diverge. This narrative blends love and romance with action, adventure, and elements of young adult fiction, appealing to those who enjoy stories rich in emotion and discovery.

Sonia Cuerva introduced her book “El renacer,” which follows Alma, a woman who, after facing loss and uncertainty, receives an unexpected inheritance leading her to an unfamiliar village. Here, she embarks on a journey of personal reconstruction, exploring themes of grief, self-discovery, and second chances.

Paula Benítez presented her intimate poetry collection “Las migas y los gorriones,” reflecting on her life experiences and emotions through the metaphor of sowing and harvesting. Her verses contemplate the fruits of life, challenges, and the importance of perseverance, aiming to resonate with readers' hearts and minds.

Another notable work was “Exégesis” by Alfredo Piquer Garzón, which marks the 21st volume and conclusion of the poetry collection “Tras la Puerta,” directed by Carmen Ortigosa Martín. This project holds significant importance for the city's poetic landscape.

Patricia Fernández's “La huella del destino” presents a gripping thriller filled with mystery, secrets, and unexpected connections. The story revolves around the disappearance of a girl and the unsettling appearance of a candy, prompting Inspector Jacob to confront not only the investigation but also echoes from his own past alongside Caroline Weiss, in a narrative where trauma, symbols, and buried secrets play a crucial role.

Diego García's contemporary novel “Una entre un millón” features characters Adrián, Isabella, and Araceli, addressing issues such as bullying, mental health, love, equality, and loneliness. Through relatable characters and experiences, García invites readers to reflect on the personal and societal challenges encountered throughout different life stages, all while maintaining a sense of hope and the pursuit of happiness.

These presentations have once again brought local authors to the forefront, showcasing their unique voices and providing an opportunity for the community to engage with and support their work. They serve as a reminder that some of the next great reads may be closer than one might think.
