The city of Tarragona has been selected to host the seventh turespaña convention, scheduled for October 2027. The announcement was made during the closing of this year's edition in Zaragoza.
The joint candidacy presented by the Generalitat of Catalonia and the Tarragona City Council was chosen due to the city's exceptional historical and cultural heritage, recognised by UNESCO. This selection highlights Tarragona's potential, along with that of Catalonia, to host significant professional events at both national and international levels.
Tarragona's infrastructure, accessibility, and organisational capacity were also key factors in the decision. Hosting the convention will strengthen Catalonia's position in the meetings tourism sector and showcase the region's diverse and high-quality tourist offerings.
Notably, Catalonia will be the first region in Spain to host the turespaña convention for a second time, following Barcelona's role as the venue in 2022. This annual event, organised by turespaña, an agency under the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, serves as a key platform for reflection, collaboration, and strategic planning within the Spanish tourism sector.
The 2027 edition is expected to attract over 500 participants, including representatives from tourism administrations, industry professionals, and officials from Spain's tourism councils abroad. Organising this convention presents an opportunity to enhance Tarragona and the Costa Daurada's visibility, generate new business opportunities, and stimulate the local economy, particularly in accommodation, dining, and event management sectors.
Moreover, the event will showcase Tarragona's attractions, including its UNESCO-listed Roman heritage, diverse gastronomic offerings, and various local experiences. The designation also reinforces Catalonia's standing in the meetings, congresses, and events tourism segment, which is crucial for generating economic value, attracting professional visitors, and promoting off-peak tourism.
Beyond the immediate impact of the event, the turespaña convention 2027 will place Catalonia at the forefront of discussions regarding the sector's main challenges and opportunities. It will facilitate knowledge exchange and collaboration among destinations, businesses, and institutions, while identifying new international promotion opportunities.
This convention also aligns with the tourism strategy “(+) Catalonia, better tourism,” which aims to create more value for the territory, businesses, and individuals, focusing on sustainability, diversification of offerings, and off-peak tourism.
Additionally, the seventh turespaña convention will strengthen relationships with tourism promotion officials from Spanish tourism offices abroad, share insights on international demand trends, and explore new cooperation avenues to enhance destination competitiveness.
