The city of Talavera is set to celebrate the Jornadas de Carlos V, known as ‘El Camino del Emperador’, from 14 to 17 October. This year’s event will include the second edition of the Imperial Parade of Emperor Charles V, scheduled for Saturday, 17 October.
Gelen Delgado, the city’s tourism councillor, emphasised the festival's significance in bringing history closer to the public through a programme that combines historical education, Renaissance recreation, music, and community involvement. She stated, “El Camino del Emperador is a very special event that allows us to highlight our historical and cultural heritage, reinforcing Talavera's identity within the European network of the Routes of Charles V.”
Delgado acknowledged the contributions of Quintín Correas, the managing director of the Network of Cooperation of the Routes of Emperor Charles V, and Diego Hernández, president of the Association of Pilgrims to Guadalupe, whose collaboration has been vital for the development of this initiative.
She also highlighted the national and international visibility of such events, which can attract visitors, invigorate public spaces, and showcase the city’s historical and cultural resources. Delgado encouraged residents and visitors to participate in the planned activities and enjoy the historical atmosphere accompanying the celebration.
The festival will commence on Wednesday, 14 October, at 18:00 at the Centro La Milagrosa, located on Paseo de la Estación, with a lecture titled ‘El Camino de Guadalupe y Talavera’ by Diego Hernández Muñoz, president of the AVV Fray Hernando. This will be followed by an exhibition of school projects on Charles V.
On Thursday, 15 October, at 18:00 in the same venue, David Fernández García, a graduate in Geography and History, will deliver a talk entitled ‘Carlos V, rey y emperador’. The programme will continue on Friday, 16 October, with Renaissance dance workshops at IES Gabriel Alonso de Herrera from 16:30 to 19:30. In the evening, the Plaza del Pan will host a showcase of Hispanic dances featuring participants from Ecuador and Peru at 21:00, followed by a concert by Hakuna Group Music at 21:30.
Saturday will feature a full schedule of activities, including the second edition of the Imperial Parade of Emperor Charles V, which will start at 17:00 from the Basilica of Our Lady of Prado. The parade will traverse various streets, concluding at Plaza del Pan. The day will begin with additional Renaissance dance workshops from 10:00 to 13:00, allowing participants to learn and practice these historical dances.
Following the parade, an institutional event will take place in Plaza del Pan at 18:30, followed by dances from the 16th century at 19:00 and a Hispanic Dance Meeting at 19:30, featuring performers from Ecuador, Peru, and Colombia. With this second edition of the Jornadas de Carlos V, Talavera continues to promote activities that link history, heritage, and community engagement, contributing to the cultural and tourism dynamism of the city.
