Government advances in the creation of audiovisual hub in Toledo

The regional government is progressing with the construction of a new economic centre focused on the film industry, as it publishes the conditions for its operation over the next 50 years.

Government advances in the creation of audiovisual hub in Toledo

The regional government of Castilla-La Mancha is making strides in the development of an audiovisual hub located in Toledo, known as the ‘City of Cinema’. Esther Padilla, the regional spokesperson, announced that the official gazette has published the terms for the concession that will govern the hub's operation for 50 years, with the possibility of a 25-year extension.

Padilla explained that the concession will be awarded through a competitive process, based on social and strategic interests. The project aims to enhance the regional audiovisual ecosystem, stimulate economic activity in the sector, create both direct and indirect jobs, promote specialised training, revitalise public spaces through cultural and technological use, and strengthen Castilla-La Mancha's position as an audiovisual destination.

Nearly eight million euros have already been invested in the project, which includes general renovations of the Polvorines Park site, basic urban development, and structural consolidation. The next phase involves selecting a company that will undertake further investments, including adapting buildings and equipping the hub for operation.

Padilla emphasised the importance of ensuring the hub's activities are compatible with public use of green spaces, stating that this consideration was integral to the drafting of the conditions. She noted that maintaining access and public transit through the area is also a priority.

In her remarks, Padilla said, “The publication of this document opens a new chapter for the development of an audiovisual hub that connects businesses, professionals, and talent in Castilla-La Mancha.”

New funding for future contemporary art and design museum

In related news, Padilla announced two new agreements reached in the latest government council meeting, which will bring additional funding for the future Museum of Contemporary Art and Design in Castilla-La Mancha. She revealed the donation of 301 works by the renowned artist Andrés Rábago, also known as ‘El Roto’, valued at over two million euros. A formal agreement to accept this donation will be signed the following day between the president of Castilla-La Mancha and Rábago himself.

Padilla expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to showcase the work of a creator whose graphic art has significantly influenced public life in Spain for decades, describing it as independent, critical, contemporary, and deeply engaged. She assured that the collection will be public, allowing it to be enjoyed, studied, and preserved appropriately in the future museum, which will be located in the former convent of Santa Fe.

Additionally, the regional government has approved a contract for the temporary deposit of a collection of contemporary artworks from the Entrecanales Collection, which includes 62 pieces by prominent Spanish artists such as José Manuel Ballester, Carmen Calvo, Luis Feito, and Isabel Muñoz. Padilla concluded her address by thanking the donors for their generosity in trusting Castilla-La Mancha with the conservation and exhibition of these works.
