Seville city council and RTVA renew agreement for European film festival

The European Film Festival of Seville will honour producer and director Álvaro Alonso with the CSRTV Award for Professional Career during a special gala on 9 November 2026. The event will be held at the Cine Cervantes and will feature a screening of ‘Rito’, a documentary film by Emilio Belmonte.

The Seville city council and RTVA (Andalusian Radio and Television) have signed a collaboration agreement to promote the 23rd edition of the festival. The agreement was signed by Juande Mellado, the general director of Canal Sur, and Ángela María Moreno, the vice president of the Institute of Culture and Arts of Seville (ICAS) and delegate for Tourism and Culture at the city council.

This partnership solidifies RTVA's role in promoting the festival, which will include extensive coverage in its main news programmes, provincial broadcasts, morning interviews with festival participants, a dedicated section on CanalSur Más, and coverage on its corporate website and social media platforms.

Álvaro Alonso to receive CSRTV award

Alonso, who is based in Seville, holds a degree in Audiovisual Communication from the University of Seville and a European Master in Audiovisual Management from Ronda, Málaga. He was nominated as a Producer on the Move at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival. He founded Jaleo Films in 2000, producing over twenty feature films and launching talents such as Chiqui Carabante, Paco Cabezas, and Paco León, with awards received in Venice, Berlin, Rotterdam, and San Sebastián, where ‘Entre dos aguas’ won the Golden Shell.

Alonso has a long-standing relationship with Canal Sur, having participated in several feature films supported by the network, including ‘Entre dos aguas’, ‘Carne de neón’, and ‘Contigo no, bicho’. He also served as president of the Platform of Entrepreneurs and Creators of Andalusian Audiovisual from 2004 to 2006.

Following the award presentation, the documentary ‘Rito’, which explores the life of flamenco heir Perrate, will be screened as part of the Andalusian Panorama section.

RTVA's involvement in the festival

RTVA's support for Andalusian cinema is evident in the festival's programming, which will showcase over twenty feature films and documentaries involving Canal Sur. The official section will highlight the world premiere of ‘Taranta’ by Samuel Nacar, competing for the Giraldillo de Oro. Additionally, ‘Anguita. El hombre de los tres siglos’, directed by Hugo Cabezas, will be shown out of competition, providing an intimate portrait of one of Spain's most unique politicians.

The Andalusian Panorama section will feature films that reflect on history, traditions, and collective memory, including ‘Bernabé, la sonrisa del flamenco’, ‘Acuérdate de mí’, and ‘Naquerar’, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of a significant work advocating for the rights of the Roma community.

Other notable titles include ‘Caballero Bonald, fragmentos de un navegante’, ‘Salta la tapia’, and several documentaries exploring various aspects of Andalusian life and culture. The festival will also dedicate space to the city of Seville itself with ‘Magna, el Alma de Sevilla’ and to sports with ‘A la melée’ and ‘Blanca Manchón, contra viento y marea’.

In fiction, the lineup includes ‘Un hombre en un puente’ and ‘La ventana abierta’, while the Special Screenings will feature documentaries such as ‘El hombre que siembra árboles’ and ‘Los Pericet. Familia de bailarines y maestros’.
