The Santa Cruz de Bezana Town Council has completed a comprehensive renovation of the changing rooms at the Soto de la Marina football ground. This project involved an investment of €520,448, including VAT, and aims to expand the facilities' capacity, improve functionality, and adapt the complex to the current needs of local sports clubs, which serve over 500 athletes.
Pedro Izquierdo, the town's Sports Councillor, highlighted the transformation during a recent visit to assess the completed works. He stated, “The result is a completely renovated, modern, spacious, and bright changing area that significantly improves the conditions under which our athletes train and compete.”
Izquierdo emphasised the importance of the renovation, noting that it addresses the needs of clubs that require more functional spaces with greater capacity and better amenities. The works, which began in April this year, have added four new changing rooms beneath the north stand, complementing the existing facilities in the south module. “This expansion will facilitate the organisation of training sessions and competitions, especially as grassroots sports continue to grow in the municipality,” he added.
The project also included a complete overhaul of the old changing room building, which will now house additional services. This facility will contain administrative offices, a multipurpose room, a storage area for sports equipment, and public restrooms. Furthermore, plans for a bar-cafeteria area are set to be addressed in a later phase, as announced by Izquierdo.
The renovation covered over 400 square metres, with more than 200 square metres allocated to the new changing rooms and approximately 236 square metres for the refurbished service building. In addition to reorganising the spaces, the works involved upgrading plumbing, sanitation, ventilation, and electrical systems, as well as enhancing thermal insulation with a new ventilated façade. Interior finishes have also been updated with more durable materials suited for intensive use in sports facilities.
With the completion of this project, the Santa Cruz de Bezana Town Council has successfully modernised one of the municipality's sports facilities, improving the training and competition conditions at Soto de la Marina.
