Televisión Canaria launches ‘tierra de volcanes’, a daily magazine about the Canary Islands

Televisión Canaria is set to premiere ‘tierra de volcanes’ on 29 October at 19:40, immediately following the programme ‘Hay que verlo’. This new daily magazine will explore the eight islands, highlighting their natural beauty, traditions, and the stories of their inhabitants.

The show will be hosted by Miguel Ángel Daswani and Dulce Fleitas, both well-known figures in the channel's broadcasting. Daswani returns to public television after several years in radio journalism, taking the helm of a format that allows him to approach current affairs from a fresh perspective. He remarked, “Canarias is a mini continent, with much to teach the world and ourselves, as sometimes we are unaware of the wonders each island holds.”

Dulce Fleitas expressed her excitement about returning to Televisión Canaria, stating, “It is a true privilege to come back with this great project, ‘tierra de volcanes’. I am particularly thrilled to share the screen with Miguel Ángel Daswani, one of the leading professionals in journalism from our archipelago, with whom I previously worked when he led the news services and I was part of the editorial team.”

Produced by B&B Producciones, the show will blend education and entertainment over a 40-minute format, providing an intimate look at the realities of the Canary Islands. Through reports, interviews, and live connections, ‘tierra de volcanes’ will traverse the villages and landscapes of the archipelago, showcasing its gastronomy, primary sector, and the lifestyles that shape Canary identity.

Farmers, ranchers, fishermen, artisans, and locals will feature prominently, with their stories carrying as much weight as the locations visited. In addition to celebrating the natural and cultural wealth of the islands, the programme will tackle significant challenges facing the Canary Islands, such as climate change, rural depopulation, and the rising cost of living. Daswani stated, “We will showcase all the good we have in 40 minutes and seek answers to the major challenges facing this archipelago.”

Fleitas added, “I am convinced that ‘tierra de volcanes’ will quickly win the public's affection, as it will allow us to tell stories from our primary sector, uncover curiosities about our nature, climate, flora and fauna, and, of course, get to know our people better.”

The programme will feature a team of reporters travelling across the islands to find stories and testimonies that illuminate the realities of the Canary Islands and their future challenges. Each afternoon, the hosts will also present weather forecasts, share intriguing images of the Canary geography, and showcase surprising videos from around the world.

Audience participation will be a key element of the show, allowing viewers to share their own stories and curiosities that may not always fit into traditional news formats. Additionally, the programme will introduce ‘Guayota’, a unique “natural intelligence” that will add a humorous touch to the content.

With the launch of ‘tierra de volcanes’, Televisión Canaria expands its offering of locally produced content and reinforces its commitment to educational and community-focused formats. This new initiative aims to provide a deeper understanding of the eight islands, giving voice to their protagonists and bringing viewers the stories, traditions, and challenges that are part of the archipelago's reality.
