The Palacio de la Isla is set to host the exhibition 'Constructing (not) painting' by Jorge Granell from 5 November to 3 December. Granell, who was born in Salamanca and now resides in Cáceres, presents a collection that delves into abstraction through experimentation with light and material textures.

Born in 1983, Granell studied architecture at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. For many years, he has balanced his work at the architectural firm Círculo Azul with his artistic practice, which complements his visual interpretation of space and light. Since 2020, he has focused exclusively on his exhibition work across various venues and fairs in Catalonia, Valencia, Andalusia, and Extremadura. His most recent project, 'Constructed Textures', was showcased at the Sala Pintores in Cáceres.

This new exhibition updates his previous project with previously unseen pieces, contributing to his expanding body of work. According to Julio C. Vázquez Ortiz, an independent curator and cultural manager, 'Jorge Granell constructs a system of representation based on the spatial function of architecture to explore it as a medium for art. By appropriating artistic techniques such as the impulse of pictorial gesture, he unfolds a constructive process on industrial materials like methacrylate, seeking a unique language that combines the expressiveness of both fields without adhering strictly to either.'

The result is a presentation that merges urbanism, painting, and installation, creating a fictional cartography that promotes aesthetic enjoyment through the abstract emotions arising from the interplay of form, colour, light, and movement, thus establishing a disciplinary and aesthetic body of work.

The Councillor for Culture, Jorge Suárez, has encouraged residents of Cáceres to visit the exhibition, describing it as 'a new proposal at the Palacio de la Isla, the city's great House of Culture, which continues to host initiatives capable of generating interest, reflection, and knowledge. We will continue to offer proposals that are of interest to the people of Cáceres.'
