On 16 and 17 October, the Archaeological Museum of Alicante (MARQ) will host the fourth National Congress of Professional Archaeology, gathering experts and professionals both in person and via streaming. Titled “Archaeology in the 21st Century: Science, Technology and Society,” the congress will focus on the present and future of this discipline.
Juan de Dios Navarro, the deputy for Culture, highlighted the significance of the event, stating, “It is a source of pride that MARQ hosts a national congress that places Alicante at the centre of the debate on the present and future of archaeology. Research, technological innovation, and dissemination are fundamental for advancing knowledge and protecting our heritage. The Diputación de Alicante is committed to fostering spaces for exchange that bring archaeology closer to society.”
Professionals, researchers, and heritage specialists will share experiences, present new research, and discuss the scientific, technological, ethical, and social challenges facing the field. This state-level event promotes knowledge exchange, innovation, and the strengthening of professional archaeology.
Organised by the Official College of Doctors and Graduates in Philosophy, Letters, and Sciences, alongside MARQ, the congress will centre its discussions around three main themes: professional archaeology and the practice of the profession; the analysis of applied technologies and archaeological innovation; and the dissemination, interpretation, and social participation in archaeological science.
