Sant Cugat council approves updated fees for Eurofitness centre after 13 years

The Sant Cugat council has approved a fee update for the Eurofitness Municipal Centre, which has not been revised since 2012. This change, set to take effect in May, aims to enhance services and address user needs.

Sant Cugat council approves updated fees for Eurofitness centre after 13 years

The Sant Cugat council has approved, with votes in favour from JUNTS and ERC, abstentions from PP, CUP, and VOX, and opposition from PSC and ECP, the update of fees for the Eurofitness Municipal Centre. The last review of these fees took place in 2012.

This measure aims to maintain the quality of service and implement immediate, verifiable improvements to the facility, following ongoing discussions with the concessionaire and repeated user complaints. The update comes after years of legal and administrative challenges that have hindered price adjustments.

During this period, the concessionaire has faced a sustained increase in costs, including electricity, water, gas, personnel, and services, without being able to adjust fees, which has strained their ability to provide the necessary level of service.

Addressing an unusual situation

The council reviewed the proposal during the Monitoring Commission meeting held on 6 February 2026, receiving positive reports from the Sports Service, the Councillor for Economy, and municipal legal services.

Factors justifying the fee update include:

  • 13 years without a fee increase amidst rising costs.
  • Labour cost increases due to sector agreements (accumulated rises of 3% in 2022, 3.5% in 2023, 4% in 2024, and 3% in 2025).
  • A 30% increase in supply costs (electricity, gas, and water), particularly since 2021.
  • A rise in centre usage, from approximately 1,000 visits per day in 2022 to 1,500 in 2026, leading to increased wear and tear on equipment and heightened maintenance needs.

Moderate increases with service improvements

The council and Eurofitness have agreed that the fee update will be linked to actions that directly enhance user experience, addressing complaints and discomfort noted in recent months. Key improvements committed by the concessionaire include:

  • Increased cleaning service by 20 hours per week to enhance comfort, safety, and equipment maintenance.
  • Comprehensive renewal of cardiovascular machines in the fitness room (originally from 2016) to reduce recurring breakdowns and unavailability.

Example of price changes

Some reference fees at the centre will change as follows:

  • Flexible monthly fee (ages 22 to 64): Previously €50.72 (including VAT) - Now €55.29 (including VAT).
  • Kids (ages 6 to 15): Previously €25.36 (including VAT) - Now €27.64 (including VAT).
  • Young adults (ages 16 to 21): Previously €40.58 (including VAT) - Now €44.24 (including VAT).
  • Seniors (65+), pensioners, and individuals with a 33% disability: Previously €26.95 (including VAT) - Now €29.37 (including VAT).

Despite the upcoming fee update, which will take effect in May, the centre will remain competitively priced compared to other municipal sports facilities in the metropolitan area.
