Lucena council enhances cemetery maintenance ahead of All Saints' Day

The council of Lucena is implementing new improvement measures at the Virgen de Araceli municipal cemetery, focusing on the installation of a sewage system, the paving of a pathway, and the repair of roofs. Javier Pineda, the councillor responsible for cemeteries, visited the site to oversee the progress of these works and to announce special arrangements for the upcoming All Saints' Day and Day of the Dead celebrations.

The main intervention, funded through the Diputación Invierte Plan, involves the installation of sewage in an older section of the cemetery and the paving of approximately 195 square metres of the pathway connecting the entrance to the western sector. The contract for the work has been awarded to the local company Multiconstructora Lucena 2080 for a total of €58,795, with an estimated completion time of four months.

In addition to these improvements, cleaning, sanitation, and roof tile replacement work is being carried out on the chapel and the blocks of niches and columbariums by the company Aventura Vertical, with a municipal investment of €7,500. The works are being organised by zones to ensure they do not interfere with cemetery visits during this period.

Regarding special opening hours, the Virgen de Araceli and San Jorge municipal cemeteries will be open continuously from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm from 26 October to 2 November, inclusive. On 1 and 2 November, the Virgen de Araceli cemetery will also feature an information point staffed by personnel from the Cemeteries Delegation, available in the morning and afternoon to assist with inquiries and help locate graves.

The programme also includes the celebration of masses on 1 and 2 November at 10:30 am and 5:00 pm, next to the Virgen de Araceli chapel, with a move to the interior in case of rain. As a preliminary activity, a funeral poetry recital by Vicente Ferez is scheduled for Saturday, 24 October, at 12:00 pm in the same venue.
