L'Hospitalet to celebrate solidarity week promoting shared values

From 2 to 8 November, the city of L'Hospitalet will host a series of workshops, talks, and performances as part of its Solidarity Week. This year, the initiative broadens its thematic focus, emphasising values that unite citizens, including solidarity, peace, respect, and human rights.

The programme features activities for all ages, aiming to promote coexistence and counteract hate speech and misinformation. Isamart Merino, a representative from the L'Hospitalet Students' Association and a member of the Citizenship Space, explained in an interview with L'Hospitalet Television that this edition seeks to extend beyond a specific theme, as coexistence is impacted by misinformation and extreme right messages affecting the community.

Among the proposed activities are workshops on identifying false information, a practical session led by the organisation Verificado, and theatrical performances such as 'The values that unite us' by Plàudite Teatre. There will also be spaces for reflection on peace culture, diversity, and intercultural coexistence.

One of the highlighted events will take place on Tuesday, 3 November, at the Santa Eulàlia Cultural Centre, featuring the presentation of a book celebrating 30 years of L'Hospitalet's commitment to the Sahrawi people. This day will also include a screening of the documentary 'Avarat' by director Víctor Cabo.

The programme will extend into the community as well. On Friday, 6 November, the Plaza de las Palmeras will host 'Everyone paints - Let's change the I', an event organised by the Cultural Association Tretze and the Quico Sabaté Youth Centre to promote coexistence among young people in the face of hate speech. This initiative will include the collective creation of a mural, sports activities, and a shared meal.

That same afternoon, in the Serp Park, the L'Hospitalet Students' Association and the Feminist Association Les Bruixes will organise 'Values in games', featuring dynamic activities to raise awareness about the importance of shared values. The programme will also include sewing workshops, artistic activities, environmental proposals, and awareness initiatives spread across various neighbourhoods.

Educational centres and local youth groups will participate, facilitating activities to introduce these values to children and young people. Solidarity Week will kick off on Monday, 2 November, with a blood donation drive on the Rambla de la Marina and a manifesto reading at 7 PM in front of the Ca n'Arús farmhouse.
