The CD Tenerife football club is mourning the loss of Jesús de Miguel, who tragically passed away following a serious incident during a match against FC Andorra at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium. The forward collapsed on the pitch after a violent collision with the visiting goalkeeper, Jesús Owono, who had ventured out of his area to clear a long ball. The match, which was tied at 2-2, was subsequently suspended.
Emergency medical services attended to De Miguel for several minutes on the field before transporting him to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria. CD Tenerife later confirmed that he had been admitted to intensive care, where he was reported to be stable, albeit in a serious condition.
Born in Madrid on 21 September 1996, De Miguel had recently celebrated his 30th birthday. Standing at approximately 1.90 metres tall, he wore the number 9 jersey for the Tenerife team and had a contract with the club until June 2028. His career was closely linked to the former Segunda División B and Primera Federación, having played for teams such as Inter de Madrid, AD Unión Adarve, CF Fuenlabrada, CDA Navalcarnero, and Unionistas de Salamanca before making a significant move to CD Castellón.
At Fuenlabrada, he was part of the squad that achieved promotion to the Segunda División. During his time with Navalcarnero, he scored four goals in the 2020/21 season, and with Unionistas de Salamanca, he netted 12 goals in the 2021/22 campaign. His most notable period before joining Tenerife was at CD Castellón, where he spent around two and a half seasons and became one of the team's key offensive players, scoring a total of 25 goals.
De Miguel's standout season came in 2023/24 when he scored 16 goals in the Primera Federación, playing a crucial role in Castellón's promotion to LaLiga Hypermotion. In the following season, he added three more goals before moving to Tenerife, where his signing was officially announced on 8 July 2025. He joined the club at a time when they were striving to return to professional football after their relegation to Primera Federación.
Interestingly, De Miguel had previously played at the Heliodoro stadium in May 2018, when he was part of the Internacional de Madrid team that faced Tenerife B in a promotion playoff. He was a starter in that match and celebrated his team's promotion at the stadium, which would later become his home.
His adaptation to Tenerife was swift, as he scored six goals in his first five matches of the 2025/26 season, surpassing the scoring records of previous players in the club's history since its establishment in 1953. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) named him the MVP of the Primera Federación for September 2025 after he recorded six goals and three assists in those initial matches.
De Miguel concluded the 2025/26 season as a key figure in Tenerife's promotion campaign, finishing with 11 goals and several assists, forming a highly productive partnership with teammate Enric Gallego. His impressive performance attracted interest from clubs such as Real Zaragoza, but he chose to remain in Tenerife to face the challenge of returning to LaLiga Hypermotion.
However, the preparation for the new season was marred by persistent pubic problems that hindered his pre-season training, limiting his involvement in the early months of the 2026/27 campaign. Prior to the match against FC Andorra, he had seen limited playing time and had yet to score this season.
The match against Andorra took a tragic turn in its final moments when Owono collided violently with De Miguel. The forward fell to the ground and required immediate medical assistance, while teammates and fans watched in concern. The goalkeeper received a red card for the incident, and the match was ultimately suspended after De Miguel was evacuated from the stadium.
