Chey Jurado's 'Marea Weekend' highlights cultural agenda in Móstoles

Choreographer and dancer Chey Jurado will debut his show 'Marea Weekend' on 6, 7, and 8 November at Teatro El Soto, as part of the 44th Autumn Festival in Móstoles. This cultural agenda, organised by the Móstoles City Council through its Department of Education and Culture, offers a diverse range of activities for all audiences, with the premiere of Jurado's dance performance as one of its main attractions.

The programme includes original version films, puppet shows, a photography exhibition, a literary workshop, and the presentation of a novel. On 3 November at 18:00, the Central Library Almudena Grandes will host the first session of 'La noche', a literary, visual, and sensory workshop exploring themes related to the night, including myths, the starry sky, dreams, literature, cinema, and music. Over four sessions, participants will discover how night and darkness have inspired art and culture through readings, images, and creative activities. The workshop will conclude with the creation of a sound map of the night, identifying and exploring sounds from both natural and urban environments.

From 4 November, the Caleidoscopio Sociocultural Centre will feature the photography exhibition 'Abstracción fotográfica' by local artist Marisa Martínez. The exhibition, which runs until 9 January, showcases eleven large-format abstract photographs where colour, textures, and strong contrasts play a prominent role, often featuring the human figure intertwined with elements that seem to compress, envelop, or liberate it.

This week, the Filmoteca's original version film cycle will screen 'Materialistas' (2025) on 4 November at 18:30 in the Norte-Universidad Sociocultural Centre. The film tells the story of Lucy, a young matchmaker in New York, whose romantic life becomes complicated when she finds herself in a love triangle between a handsome billionaire and her ex-boyfriend, an aspiring actor.

The 'Jueves en Familia' programme will feature 'Un paseo por el mar', a puppet show by Los Gorriones. This engaging performance follows Marina, a girl who discovers that her father, the Pirate Pilululero, is trapped in the ocean by a mass of rubbish. The children's show creatively blends puppetry and live actors, with the main characters appearing as both flesh-and-blood figures and puppets in various scenes.

On 6 November, local author Vanesa Rodrigo will present her book 'Donde habitan los sueños' at 18:30 in the Central Library Almudena Grandes. The novel invites readers to explore the story of Heloise and characters whose lives are shaped by friendship, family, love, and the struggle to achieve their dreams, highlighting the trials they face along the way.

Chey Jurado, who won the 2022 Ojo Crítico Dance Award from RTVE, will perform 'Marea Weekend' at Teatro El Soto on 6 and 7 November at 20:00, and on 8 November at 18:00. The performance offers a reflection on the passage of time, personal transformation, and the necessity of moving forward. Through an intimate and symbolic journey, it explores the tension between movement and stillness, the weight of the past, and the desire to break free from limiting factors.

As part of the Family Film cycle, the film 'Dalia y el libro rojo' will be screened on 8 November at 12:00 in the Norte-Universidad Sociocultural Centre and at 18:00 in the Joan Miró Sociocultural Centre. The story follows Dalia, the daughter of a renowned writer, who, after her father's recent death, takes on the challenge of completing his final work, immersing herself in the book's universe where she must confront characters intent on taking control of the story.

On 8 November, the City Museum will host a 'Classical Guitar Concert' by Gerardo Acuña at 12:00, with free entry available through prior reservation at the centre starting from 3 November. The cultural programme will conclude with 'El silencio de Hamelin', a puppet show by Farres Brothers and Cia, at the Villa de Móstoles Theatre on 8 November at 12:30. This performance offers a unique reinterpretation of the Pied Piper of Hamelin story, posing the question: what if one of the girls were deaf? Years later, Clara and Bruno revisit their childhood events guided by a mysterious character, using objects, words, sign language, and music to reflect on diversity and the different abilities that remain hidden until brought to light. This moving proposal has been recognised with the FETEN Award in 2018.
