The Museo Arqueológico de Alicante (MARQ) is set to host the event titled 'Communicating for equality: strategies for inclusive and non-sexist institutional communication' on 28 October. This event marks the conclusion of the 'Encuentros por la Igualdad' series organised by the Diputación de Alicante.
Loreto Serrano, the diputada de Bienestar Social e Igualdad (Deputy for Social Welfare and Equality), outlined the significance of this gathering, stating, 'Communication is a powerful tool that, when used consciously and ethically, can drive a culture of respect and equity.' She emphasised that often, the way we communicate can reproduce gender stereotypes and perpetuate invisible inequalities.
This fifth and final meeting will feature experts Alejandra Hernández Ruiz and Mar Galindo Merino, who will discuss the crucial role of language and communication within public gender equality policies, highlighting their potential to contribute to social change and transformation.
Alejandra Hernández, director of the Institute for Gender Studies and a professor in the Department of Communication and Social Psychology at the University of Alicante, will focus her presentation on 'Language and communication as a tool for social change.' Meanwhile, Galindo Merino, a linguist and professor of General and Applied Linguistics at the University of Alicante, will provide insights on 'Keys to non-sexist communication in local administration.'
The 'Encuentros por la Igualdad' series serves as a platform for professionals dedicated to equality, social transformation, and local action. Attendance is free, but places are limited.
