The Central Library of Illescas is set to hold the awards ceremony for the twelfth edition of its Short Story Competition, aiming to promote literary creation in Spanish while also reaching beyond borders. This year, the competition has attracted 113 stories submitted to relatobreve@illescas.es, with hopes of being among the prize-winning entries.
Of the submissions, 33 are from authors residing in Illescas, highlighting the competition's strong local appeal. Participants hail from various regions, including the Valencian Community, Catalonia, Asturias, Andalusia, Galicia, Castilla-La Mancha, and the Community of Madrid. Notably, there is also an entry from Uruguay.
The competition awards three main prizes: the first prize is valued at €1,000, the second at €700, and the third at €400. Additionally, local writers are recognised in a separate category, with prizes of €300, €200, and €100 for their works.
The awards ceremony will take place tomorrow afternoon, featuring storyteller Héctor Urién, who will share tales from The Arabian Nights. Following this, the jury's verdict will be announced. The jury includes Carmen Manzaneque, Alicia Fernández-Campos, Sonia de la Iglesia, Mónica Hernando, and María José Cantero, all of whom are connected to the cultural and educational sectors of Illescas.
The event will be held in the Conference Room of the Central Library, starting at 7 PM, and entry is free.
