The tourist trains of Galicia have concluded the 2026 season with an impressive average occupancy rate of 93.4%, highlighting the appeal of this initiative that combines rail travel with experiences linked to heritage, nature, gastronomy, and wine tourism.
Launched by Turismo de Galicia in collaboration with Renfe and the INORDE, the programme operated from 7 March to 3 October, featuring a total of 13 itineraries and 33 departures. The total offering reached 2,482 seats, a 9.4% increase compared to the previous edition, while the number of passengers rose by 11%.
Among the most popular routes were the Wine Route of Ribeiro-Rías Baixas, the Lighthouse Route, the Ribeira Sacra Wine Route, and the Camellia in Bloom Route. The programme also included tours of historic pazos (manor houses) and gardens, monasteries, and various wine regions, alongside experiences tied to Galician culinary traditions.
The variety of itineraries allows visitors to explore tourist resources across the four provinces, blending unique landscapes, historical heritage, wineries, and local traditions. Additionally, the distribution of departures throughout the year helps to diversify tourist flows and promote off-peak travel, boosting activity in various destinations and times of the year.
Since its inception in 2013, the tourist trains of Galicia have progressively expanded their offerings, establishing a model of experiential tourism that enhances knowledge of the region and highlights its tourist resources.
