Today marks the opening of the exhibition Na Canella. 1973-2026 at the Municipal Exhibition Hall of Palexco, dedicated to the artistic journey of Antón Lamazares, one of the most significant figures in contemporary Galician painting. The exhibition will be open to the public until 17 January 2027 and offers a retrospective of over five decades of creation through representative works from different phases of the artist's career.
The showcase provides insight into Lamazares' creative universe, characterised by his deep connection to memory, childhood, the rural landscapes of Galicia, and experimentation with materials. Born in Maceira, in the Pontevedra municipality of Lalín, in 1954, Lamazares has built an extensive international career, with stays in cities such as Paris, New York, and Berlin, while maintaining a strong bond with his roots.
This exhibition also serves as a cultural reunion for the artist with A Coruña, a city with which he has had a longstanding relationship since the early years of his career. He first exhibited there in 1974 and later presented Un saco de pan duro in 2001 at the former Maritime Station, one of the last exhibitions held at that venue. Twenty-five years later, Lamazares returns to the port area of A Coruña with a proposal that highlights the evolution of his artistic language, where painting and poetry engage in a constant dialogue.
As a complementary activity to the exhibition, Antón Lamazares will conduct a guided tour on Saturday, 31 October, at 12:00. This event will allow attendees to gain firsthand knowledge of the exhibited works, the artist's creative process, and the key elements of a career spanning over fifty years. Participants are encouraged to arrive at Palexco before 12:00, and no prior reservation is required.
