CINBIO launches biotechnology and life sciences acceleration programme

The Centre for Research in Nanomaterials and Biomedicine (CINBIO) at the University of Vigo has unveiled the first edition of the Business Factory BioTrack, an advanced acceleration programme focused on biotechnology and life sciences. This initiative is promoted by Bioga, in collaboration with Igape and XesGalicia, as part of the Business Factory network of the Xunta de Galicia.

The launch event, held on a recent Wednesday, was attended by researchers, representatives from companies, startups, spin-offs, and professionals from the university involved in knowledge transfer and innovative entrepreneurship. The opening remarks were delivered by Ángeles López Lozano, technical director of the R&D Office at the University of Vigo; Noa Caramés, manager of CINBIO; and Pablo Quinteiro Bernal, representing Bioga.

During the session, attendees learned about the programme's objectives, requirements, and features, which aim to connect validated biotechnological solutions with industry needs, facilitating their market entry through partnerships with leading companies in the sector. Participants also had the opportunity to ask questions during a Q&A session following the presentation.

The first edition of the Business Factory BioTrack focuses on the challenge of developing innovative solutions for a healthy and sustainable bioeconomy. It seeks scientifically-based technological solutions that generate new products and processes of greater value for the industry, centred around three main areas: biotechnology applied to sustainable production and food; biotechnology for new valorisation pathways; and enabling technologies for biomedicine and drug development.

The call for participation in this inaugural edition will remain open until 30 October, with up to eight projects to be selected for a twelve-month acceleration itinerary that includes specialised mentoring, training, connections with investors, and opportunities to develop proof of concept with industry companies. Additionally, selected projects may apply for financial support of up to €30,000 each.
