The mayor of Chiclana, José María Román, recently chaired the Tourism Roundtable, held at the Wine and Salt Interpretation Centre. The meeting was attended by Ana González, the Beaches Delegate, and Manuela Pérez, the Sustainable Tourism Delegate, alongside representatives from local hotels and businesses connected to the city's tourism sector, including nautical companies, hospitality, sports enterprises, environmental centres, and the public transport concessionaire. Students from the Vocational Training Cycle in Tourist Accommodation Management at IES La Pedrera Blanca also participated.
During the session, the 2026 tourist season was reviewed, and new proposals were discussed to enhance the municipality's tourism offerings in the coming years. Mayor Román emphasised the significance of the Tourism Roundtable, describing it as a collaborative effort to address shared concerns that will enable progress in tourism and employment. He stated, "All economic sectors in the city recognise the importance of tourism for a city like Chiclana, and this synergy is essential for working towards new goals in the upcoming years."
Román noted that significant advancements have been made in aesthetics, infrastructure, and commercial and leisure offerings, but acknowledged the need to continue addressing new challenges. "Chiclana has been recognised as one of the best tourist destinations in Spain, with the highest daily spending, but we must keep improving on small details and listening to industry professionals," he added. He reiterated the importance of maintaining Chiclana's status as a leading tourist destination.
This year, efforts have continued to beautify the city with new sculptures of historical figures in the Nueva Gadeira area and at the Town Hall. Sustainability initiatives have been implemented at the beach, including the introduction of brown waste containers. Additionally, new gastronomic, sporting, and cultural events have been launched, alongside new projects funded by European grants for the benefit of all citizens.
New mobility actions have also been discussed, including the consolidation of the Orange Zone, the Sustainable Mobility Plan, and an increase in the number of taxis, which will continue in the coming years. Furthermore, new facilities for congress tourism, such as the cultural space at Las Albinas, are being developed.
