CE L'Hospitalet has secured its place in the sixth round of the men's Copa Catalunya after overcoming CF Montañesa in a tense penalty shootout. The match concluded with a 1-1 draw after regular time, setting the stage for the decisive penalties.
The riberenc team created several opportunities to take the lead, but it was Montañesa who struck first, with Sergi Melero scoring in the 57th minute. However, L'Hospitalet responded quickly, equalising just five minutes later through Aaron Jaye in the 62nd minute. The score remained 1-1 until the end of regular time, necessitating a penalty shootout to determine the winner.
In the shootout, Damià Ferrando, the usually substitute goalkeeper, emerged as the hero, making two crucial saves. Goals from Thymos, Albert López, Jamal, and Marc Vicente allowed L'Hospitalet to secure their advancement to the next round.
Alongside L'Hospitalet, other teams that have qualified include Badalona, Mollerussa, Tona, Peralada, Sporting Gavà, Vilassar, and Cerdanyola. Three matches remain to complete this round of the competition, with the qualified teams set to face off against clubs from Segunda Federación in the upcoming sixth round. According to the competition rules, these matches are scheduled to take place in November.
