The British tourism sector is once again at the forefront of the Canary Islands' tourism strategy. The archipelago is participating in the World Travel Market (WTM) in London, the leading global tourism fair, addressing issues such as air connectivity and prospects for the winter season.
Jéssica de León, the Canary Islands' Minister of Tourism, stated in an interview with the programme Buenos Días Canarias on Televisión Canaria that while forecasts are positive, there is a "slight slowdown in arrivals compared to last year." She noted, "We are attending for the first time in four years with fewer flight seats than the previous year, as flights are being diverted to other competing destinations. However, from January to August, we have positive data; we are 1.3% above 2025 and 7% higher in spending."
De León expressed concern regarding the upcoming winter and summer seasons, as agents report that bookings are being made last minute. She added, "It will be a long season, although we expect to close the year with good forecasts."
