Cabo Fisterra joins Spain's network of magical places

The iconic Cabo Fisterra, located on the Costa da Morte, has been officially recognised as one of Spain's new magical places, a designation that highlights its unique landscape, historical heritage, and deep connection to the identity and traditions of the region.

This announcement was made during the sixth National Meeting of Magical Towns in Spain, which took place from 23 to 25 October in Padrón. This year, the initiative welcomed 14 new locations, increasing the total number of distinguished sites from 18 to 32 across the country.

Among the newly recognised sites are notable cultural and natural landmarks such as the Cathedral of Jaén, the Roman Theatre of Mérida, the archaeological sites of Atapuerca, and the Tabernas Desert. The recognition aims to honour spaces of significant historical, cultural, natural, or symbolic importance and their connection to the local territory.

The mayor of Fisterra, Luis Insua, and deputy mayor, Susana Rodríguez Nemiña, attended the meeting to accept the award, which was the result of a proposal put forward by the Concello de Fisterra. Once considered the end of the known world, Cabo Fisterra is now one of Galicia's major tourist symbols.

Its stunning Atlantic landscape, lighthouse, and connection to the extension of the Camino de Santiago to the Costa da Morte make it an especially attractive destination for visitors and pilgrims alike. This new recognition presents an opportunity to enhance the tourism profile of Fisterra and the Costa da Morte, showcasing its natural and cultural heritage and promoting awareness of the resources that make this area a unique destination.
