The Royal Academy of Antequera hosted the launch of the book Estudios en Homenaje al Profesor Antonio Parejo Barranco on 16 October 2026. This publication pays tribute to the academic and research contributions of the Antequera historian, who passed away in 2013. The event also featured the unveiling of a commemorative bust of Parejo, created by artist Paula Castro.

Presiding over the event, Mayor Manolo Barón was joined by Mercedes Fernández-Paradas, director of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, and José Escalante, president of the Institute of Academies of Andalusia. Other attendees included Juan Rosas, first deputy mayor and vice president of the Málaga Provincial Council, along with councillors Sara Ríos, José Medina Galeote, and Marta González.

The book, published by the Ayuntamiento de Antequera and coordinated by Fernández-Paradas and Escalante, compiles articles and academic studies that honour Antonio Parejo Barranco and his intellectual legacy. It recognises his contributions as a professor, historian, and researcher, particularly in the fields of economic history and industrialisation.

During his speech, Mayor Barón highlighted Parejo's significant contributions to understanding the economic history of Antequera and his research on the industrialisation of Málaga, Andalusia, Spain, and Europe during the first two industrial revolutions. He emphasised the importance of preserving and disseminating Parejo's scientific work as part of the historiographical heritage linked to the city.

Barón also reflected on Parejo's human side, describing him as a rigorous professional, approachable, and endowed with a unique sense of humour and irony. He recalled personal conversations with the historian, noting both his intellectual capacity and the affection with which he is remembered by those who knew him.

In September 2013, the Ayuntamiento dedicated the Antequerana Room of the San Zoilo Municipal Library to Antonio Parejo Barranco, recognising his contributions and connection to the city. The mayor stated, "Antonio has not left us because he has left something very important, which is his work, his research," underscoring the need to continue studying, interpreting, and disseminating his contributions through new publications and academic initiatives.

The unveiling of the bust by Paula Castro completed this tribute, merging recognition of Antonio Parejo Barranco's scientific career with a remembrance of his personal legacy, which continues to serve as a reference for the study of economic and industrial history.
