The Barbastro City Council is set to present the Germana de Foix awards on 29 October as part of the 20th edition of Entrepreneurship Week, taking place from 26 to 30 October. This year's event will feature activities in several provincial capitals and towns including Barbastro, Alcañiz, Calatayud, Jaca, and Graus.
In Barbastro, a conference titled ‘Leadership, vision for the future, and entrepreneurial spirit’ will be delivered by Ildefonso García Serena. Scheduled for 19:00 at the Diocesan Museum, the talk will provide insights into García Serena's personal experiences. A prominent advertising professional and innovation consultant, he has spent much of his career in Barcelona, where he currently resides. García Serena completed his secondary education at the Escuelas Pías in Barbastro, where he also spent part of his childhood. He later earned a degree in Information Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid and a diploma in European Communities from Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Throughout his career, he has held executive positions in various international companies and served as Dean of the College of Advertisers and Public Relations of Catalonia from 2001 to 2007, now holding the title of Emeritus Dean.
Following the conference, the Germana de Foix awards will be presented to this year's recipients: José Salamero Duerto (Legacy in Business Award), the Parque Cultural del Río Vero (Collaborative Leadership Award), and Yuneykys Fajardo (Entrepreneurship Award).
José Salamero Duerto, originally from Pozán de Vero and who passed away in December 2025, played a crucial role in the urban development of Barbastro and the surrounding region of El Somontano. He was a key figure in both construction and tourism, notably promoting the restoration of the Hotel San Ramón. His career highlights include contributions to the construction of Torreciudad and various residential projects in areas such as Sector La Paz and Avenida del Cinca.
The Parque Cultural del Río Vero, awarded the Collaborative Leadership Award, exemplifies cooperation among institutions, municipalities, and associations since 1997, focusing on the interpretation and promotion of cultural heritage. The park spans eleven municipalities, including Boltaña, Aínsa-Sobrarbe, and Alquézar, and has united various entities around a common project for over 25 years.
Yuneykys Fajardo receives the Entrepreneurship Award for her stewardship of the historic Casa Allué shop, which remains operational due to her commitment, highlighting the significance of business transfers for local economies and commercial urbanism.
Silvia Ramírez, the Councillor for Development, congratulated all the awardees, emphasising their vital roles in reinforcing Barbastro's status as a regional service hub: “Barbastro is a city thanks to its businesses, shops, freelancers, and hospitality sector. Without their efforts, we would not be what we are, so it is only right to recognise this with these awards.”
