The Balearic Sailing Federation held an awards ceremony for the Mallorca School Sailing Championships, honouring the achievements of Sub-17 sailors and their families at Misericordia. This event not only recognised the results from the 2025-26 season but also celebrated the federation’s 60th anniversary.
During the ceremony, nearly 20 young athletes were acknowledged for their sporting merits in various classes, including Optimist, Techno 293, ILCA 4, and 420. The awards highlighted the accomplishments of sailors from different clubs across the island.
Toni Prats, the island's director of sports at the Consell de Mallorca, attended the event, supporting the recognised athletes and the technical and management team of the Balearic Sailing Federation, including its president, Cati Darder. Prats expressed institutional support for the sailing sector and the organisations promoting it, stating, “Having nearly 20 awardees from the 2025-26 season here today demonstrates that this sport, which is very much ours, is unstoppable. It shows the excellent work done by these young and brave athletes, their coaches, the clubs behind them, and the federation that drives them.”
Prats also congratulated the federation on its 60th anniversary in 2026, describing it as a special milestone that signifies maturity and tradition.
In her speech, Darder thanked the clubs, coaches, technical teams, judges, federation staff, and families for their contributions, as well as the efforts of the sailors. “We have much to remember and be grateful for, and a future to continue building together,” she said.
The young sailors, representing various clubs from the islands, took to the stage alongside their club representatives. The awards recognised the achievements of young sailors in the Optimist, Techno 293, ILCA 4, and 420 classes, which form the foundation for sporting development and the future of Balearic sailing.
