The Huesca campus of the University of Zaragoza is set to welcome the IV International Congress on Health and Sports Sciences on 5 and 6 November. This event will see the participation of 180 specialists who will present more than 60 research papers and scientific studies.
Mountain sports will be a central theme of the congress, with plenary sessions addressing topics such as mountain running, ski touring, and climbing. Additionally, discussions will explore the benefits of physical activity and nutrition for sports performance.
Organised by the Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences, the congress will take place in the auditorium of the Faculty of Business and Public Management, located at Plaza de la Constitución, 1, in Huesca. The event will feature a variety of formats including lectures, oral communications, poster presentations, and panel discussions covering various aspects of health and sports sciences.
Key topics will include safe and healthy physical activity in mountainous environments, multidisciplinary approaches to health, technology in running and training, specialisation in mountain sports, the use of exercise as 'medicine', and nutrition for endurance activities. There will also be workshops and specific sessions aimed at young researchers, awards, and opportunities for presenting undergraduate and master's thesis work related to the congress theme.
The congress will kick off with a morning session on 5 November, featuring workshops and communication panels for young researchers from the Exernet network, focusing on exercise and health. This preliminary session will run from 10:00 to 14:00, leading into the official inauguration at 16:00.
At 16:30, a lecture by José Antonio Casajús, a professor at the University of Zaragoza, will open a segment dedicated to the role of physical exercise in disease. Another block of presentations will begin at 19:00, concentrating on technological and scientific advancements related to running.
The following day will include sessions dedicated to nutrition and sports performance at 10:00, strength training for various mountain sports at 15:30, and sports specialisation in ski mountaineering at 17:30. The day will conclude at 20:00 with an awards ceremony for the presented works. Plenary talks on elite sports will also take place at 13:00 and 19:00, featuring athlete Virginia Pérez and cycling expert Sebastian Sitko, as well as Olympic skimo coach Javier Argüelles.
Throughout both days, there will be opportunities for presenting recent research posters between plenary sessions.
