The Government Board of the Alicante City Council has approved the awarding of the construction contract for the CEIP La Cañada del Fenollar to Abala Infraestructuras S.L. The project is budgeted at €5,682,910 and is part of the Edificant Plan initiated by the Generalitat Valenciana, which aims to improve educational infrastructure.
The contract was initially put out to tender with a base budget of €5,856,255 and a projected completion timeline of 22 months. Mari Carmen de España, the city’s Education Councillor, stated, "This new centre will provide the area and its surroundings with safe and modern facilities to meet the needs of students and the educational community.”
The CEIP La Cañada del Fenollar will be constructed on a plot of land developed by the City Council, located between Aucuba and Madroño streets. It will include four classrooms for early childhood education, six for primary education, and three additional ordinary classrooms, as well as support and special education rooms, a kitchen, and a dining area capable of serving 392 students in two shifts. The total usable area will be 1,475 square metres, expanding to 3,380 square metres of constructed space.
In addition, the school will feature 2,420 square metres of outdoor spaces, including extensions of the infant classrooms, porches, a multi-sport court, play areas for both infant and primary students, a school garden, landscaped areas, and parking facilities.
The design consists of two floors: a ground floor in a U-shape that navigates the plot's elevation, and a first floor with both external and internal access from the ground floor, which complements the classroom layout. The open courtyard is situated in the centre of the U, around which the school's programme is organised. The remaining area will include a multi-sport court, garden spaces, and parking.
Access to the school will be provided via a main entrance in the southeast, linking to administrative services, classrooms, and internal areas, while a second entrance in the northeast will facilitate vehicle access to facilities and parking. The awarded company has also proposed enhancements, including a three-year warranty extension, the installation of six pergolas, and the delivery of a digital model of the building.
