Women’s association in Benalmádena celebrates 40 years with gala event

The Asociación de Mujeres Arroyo-Benalmádena will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a commemorative gala on 6 November at 18:30 in the Casa de la Cultura in Arroyo de la Miel. The event will highlight the history and achievements of the organisation, which is dedicated to promoting participation, training, and support for women in the municipality.

This private event, which is by invitation only, will be attended by members, former participants, institutional representatives, and individuals connected to the association’s history. Jéscia Trujilo, the councillor for Equality, attended the event's presentation.

A key moment of the gala will be the screening of the short documentary ‘Las que se pusieron de pie’, which captures the association's memory through testimonials from its members, photographs, historical documents, and memories that illustrate its evolution since its inception.

The documentary is part of a cultural project developed by the association throughout 2026. Founded in 1986, the Asociación de Mujeres Arroyo-Benalmádena emerged from a group of women seeking a space to share concerns and promote female participation in local life. It was formally established in 1989 and has since organised numerous cultural, educational, and social activities.

The anniversary celebration also includes the publication of two books, ‘Las que se pusieron de pie’ and ‘Antes de nosotras’, featuring stories about extraordinary women, as well as the creation of a commemorative mural and various artistic and participatory initiatives. Additionally, the Casa de la Cultura is hosting an exhibition until Friday that showcases photographs, portraits, original documents, historical minutes, and illustrations related to the association's journey, which has been led by Encarna Jiménez since 2014.

The gala will serve as a tribute to the founders, various boards, facilitators, and members who have contributed to the organisation over the past four decades, while also introducing its history to new generations.
